Did you know that our favourite dance style has it’s very own holiday? That’s right, 26th May is Frankie Manning’s birthday which we now celebrate as World Lindy Hop Day! Here’s a couple of things you might like to do to celebrate this year:
- Read up on Lindy Hop history: Frankie Manning: Ambassador of Lindy Hop, Swingin’ at the Savoy: the Memoire of a Jazz Dancer, Swing History 101 (Swungover blog)
- Watch some old dance clips. This Lindy Clips Index has links to pretty much everything that’s out there.
- Bring a non-dancing friend to a dance class or social and share the love! We have a Fundamentals Course starting that week on the 29th May
- Get dancing yourself with our Frankie’s Moves Course starting 29th May and learn not only some of our favourite Frankie moves but a good amount of history and culture too.
- Make a donation to the Frankie Manning Foundation
- Attend a world lindy hop day event! York are running theirs tomorrow by the way
Happy World Lindy Hop Day!
