What is Lindy Hop?

Maybe you’ve seen it on tele or you’ve heard friends talking about it but what is this Lindy Hop dance??

Lindy Hop is a social partner dance that was first popular in the US from the 1920s-40s. It is the original “swing dance” and is usually danced to swing music. The dance had a revival in the late 1990s and since then has become a world wide phenomenon, with dance scenes springing up in cities all around the globe. It’s a tremendously versatile dance that can be slow, chilled out, and sophisticated or wild and high energy or anything in between. For a more detailed explanation of Lindy Hop history and culture and some fabulous photos check out this blog post.

Learn the basics of Lindy Hop in just one 4-week course!

Hot Charleston is open to absolute beginners and experienced dancers alike, starting from the basic step giving you a few showy moves and a good workout. The workshop has two sections; the first section gives you a short fun routine and the second section focuses on developing the steps you’ve learnt in the first section, introducing a freestyle aspect (but in a structured way). This will give you the confidence to Charleston anywhere!
