Our classes have been suspended since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. While many things have started to go back to normal it my be some time before our partnered classes can resume. In the meantime we encourage you to join in with our all levels pay-as-you-feel online classes.

We run a lot of 4 week courses on Wednesdays at The Dance Studio Leeds. Class times are 6.30 – 7.30pm and 8.30 – 9.30pm.

Lindy Hop Fundamentals Course

Our fundamentals course is a very popular way to kick start your dancing. This course will help you build your basic skills giving you a solid foundation in fundamental lindy hop moves and techniques. Small class size, Individual feedback, structured learning, appropriate for beginners, improvers, and anyone else who wants to build their basics,

Swingout Course

Next Course Dates:
5th Feb, 27th May, 23rd Sept

Wednesdays 8:30-9:30pm. £32

The course will go over the basic shape of a swingout and progress to more in depth technique and a couple of variations to spice things up a bit. Appropriate for those who have learnt a swing out shape and want to improve on their technique and learn a variation or two. This course also for people who’ve never learnt a swing out, but have a solid grasp of the fundamentals of Lindy hop  – this is the next step for you.

Musicality Course

Once you have a good grasp of the basics and a good handful of moves under your belt, we will give you some tools to help you become more musical in your dancing.  This course will give you a better understanding of the music, it’s common features and how to work with the music when you dance. It will include both how to be musical in and of yourself but also how to work with a partner to inspire and take inspiration from each other and the music. As with all our courses the class size will be small so we can answer any questions and give individual advice and exercises to take home.

Classic Moves Course

There are so many awesome Lindy Hop moves, we wish we could learn them all. In this four week course we’ll teach you some of the most classic ones. We’ve now split this course into two. The April course will feature signature moves of Frankie Manning, the August course will feature particularly tricky moves. The aim of both courses is to spend a good amount of time learning how to do these classic moves well enough to lead and follow them smoothly on the social dance floor. You will be required to have a good grasp of the fundamentals of Lindy Hop and will ideally have done swingouts.

Intro to partnered Charleston

This course will get you dancing the fun energetic and fast charleston everywhere you go. Giving you a good number of moves and the technique to social dance them when you’re at a party. Appropriate for beginners but is a great dance to add to your repertoire as a Lindy Hop dancer, so if you’ve taken our Fundamentals course give this a go.

Tandem Charleston

This course is for those who have a good grasp of basic partnered charleston and are looking for more. Tandem Charleston aka Back to Back’ charleston is awesome fun, looks amazing and you can do it easily to fast music. The course will focus on core tandem charleston entries, exits and fun things to do while you’re there. No prior knowledge of tandem charleston required but 30s / side by side charleston basic is necessary. Check out our tandem charleston course video:

Tandem Madness

In this course we take a step beyond the basics and get into some of the many cool moves you can do in and from Tandem Charleston. The course will assume that you have a grasp of side by side, tandem and hand to hand charleston.

California Routine

Next course dates:
18th Nov

Wednesdays: 8:30-9:30pm £32

The California Routine is a classic lindy hop routine, which draws on all of the fundamentals of lindy hop, including 6 beat, 8 beat and charleston footwork.  It includes some small lifts and is often used as a performance routine.  You will need to have a good grasp of the fundamentals of lindy hop and be comfortable with swingouts for this course.  We won’t be doing any of the big aerials in the routine and have adapted them so that they are achievable for everyone!  As well as providing you with the moves and technique you need to complete this routine, we will also be focusing on its performance aspects.

Beginners Collgiate Shag

Collegiate Shag is a fun and energetic dance closely related to Lindy Hop.  Suitable for absolute beginners as well as those who already dance Lindy Hop and want to learn something new.  The Course will start from the fundamentals, building the basic technique, and will give you a few basic moves to get you dancing Shag socially.

Balboa Basics

Balboa is another dance in the swing family! Our Balboa Basics course will help you build your basic skills giving you a solid foundation in Balboa moves and techniques and is suitable for absolute beginners. With small class sizes you will get to meet and know a lovely group of people interested in dancing balboa.

Tranky Doo

The Tranky Doo is a classic jazz routine from the 1930’s. A step up from the Shim Sham but not as tricky as the Big Apple – this fun and energetic jazz routine is just right!  This course will break down each step but will move quickly onto the next.

Big Apple

The big apple is an awesome Solo Jazz choreography by Frankie Manning! It is done world wide and all the best dancers know it.  It’s notoriously fast and difficult to remember – BUT- we’ve got the perfect solution to remember it. We’ll take it in chunks and have plenty of time to practice at home, and lots of practice each week.  So whether the Big Apple is entirely new to you or you’ve learnt bits of it here and there this six week course will solidify it in your memory.
