Here are a few of the questions we get asked about our classes on a regular basis. Hopefully you will find the answer to your question below. If not, please email swingdanceleeds@gmail.com with your question and we will do our best to answer!
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes! We ask everyone who wants to take our classes to book in advance. Do this by going to our dancecloud page and selecting the class you want.
What is the best class for beginners?
Our Wednesday ‘Beginners Lindy Hop’ class is our recommendation if you’re new to Lindy Hop. Every single one of these classes starts from the very beginning and no experience or partner is required. You can drop in whenever you like and get as much repetition as you need. We recommend taking at least 6 classes to give you the best start in Lindy Hop and a great foundation to take our higher level courses.
We also run some 4 week beginners course in other styles of swing dance:
Intro to Partnered Charleston
Balboa Basics
Keep an eye on our classes page for dates and details of all upcoming courses.
How does the 6 Class Pass work?
We recommend taking at least 6 classes to give you the best start in Lindy Hop. If you buy the 6 class pass you save some money and you can turn up to any 6 beginners classes within 4 months of buying the pass. Just turn up and we’ll tick it off our list until you’ve used all 6, no need to book each week.
Do I need to bring a partner?
No! We rotate partners so you don’t need to book with a partner. On the 4 week courses, if the balance is not even you will be put on a short waiting list and confirmation of your place will be sent out when the balance is even.
Is the beginners class a course?
No, the beginners classes are stand alone. You can take one, or all of them, or have a break and come back. We recommend taking at least 6 classes before moving on to a follow on 4 week course.
What courses are you currently running?
The best way to find out what courses we’re running is to check our class page on our website. You can also suggest what courses you’d like to see in the future. All courses must be booked via dancecloud, so you can also check there.
Do I have to take all 4 classes of a 4 week course?
Ideally yes, the courses are designed to build each week. Though it is not uncommon for people to miss one week in a four week course. If you do, you can come early the following week and we will give you a 10min recap of what you missed. If you know you’re going to miss a week or two you will still have to book for the whole course.
What do you mean by leader/follower?
Lindy Hop is a partnered dance consisting of a leader and a follower in each partnership. Simplistically, leaders instigate the moves within the dance and followers respond and complete the suggested movements. Historically men were often the leaders and women were often the followers however today you should pick whichever role you wish to learn; we just ask that you stick to the same role throughout the class.
Do you offer refunds if I do not take or complete the course I have booked?
If you are no longer able to take a course that you have booked, please tell us as soon as possible. Refunds are at our discretion.
